I adored this film. Such unhurried beauty..I felt my desire to slow into that unhurried pace of life. The cinematography was sumptuous, coupled with the director's desire to show the the beauty of 'mundane' activities, like collecting fresh eggs, or catching baby frogs.
In 2013, "Eternity" has won the Special Jury Prize at the California Film Awards. The film was selected for screening at Cinema des Antipodes at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2013. and was the only New Zealand Film to screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2013.
The song "Re-enlistment Blues" in the movie is sung by finger-picking guitar legend Merle Travis who is playing his specially modified Martin guitar. It had a modified neck installed by his friend Paul Bigsby to be more like the Gibson electric guitars he played.
The aggressively silly sendup "Eternity: The Movie" seems to have been constructed on the premise that all you need to make a parody are a few 1980s props and a relentless synth-pop beat.
